New line-up and 3rd album coming up

The Jazzinvaders started recording their 3rd album. This time, the focus will be more on vocal jazztunes, hence a leading role for singer Linda Bloemhard. But that's not all, also the instrumentation will be a bit different: they've welcomed the sound of the electric bass and electric pianos. It is all in progress, but it will definitely get The Jazzinvaders to the next level. Within this process of movement the line-up of the Jazzinvaders has also undergone a change. The wonderful pianist Erwin Hoorweg and equally brilliant sax player Tom Beek have decided to spend more time on their own projects. In their place, The Jazzinvaders have found some excellent new bandmembers to complete the new album and to perform on stage like Berthil Bustra on keys and special request tenorsaxophonist Guido Nijs!

Jazzinvaders did Granada & Madrid

In November, the Jazzinvaders were invited to play in Spain twice. On Friday the 14th, we arrived in Granada, a gorgeous town with a lot of history, a large community of students and among them - as it turned out - many music fans.

The night in the Boogaclub was just cooking. Linda and Rolf traded some serious improvisations on stage and the crowd almost almost tore down the roof as we pledged to play our third encore. On Saturday morning, we caught a glimpse of the beautiful city and enjoyed some healing Mediterranean Sun, despite the fierce obstruction by countless female hand-readers. During the afternoon, we travelled to Madrid by bus. A nice trip that exposed us to some breathtaking Spanish landscapes. In the country's capital, we had an early soundcheck in Le Swing Club, a small but cosy nightclub-style place no jazz tourist would ever find. As we grabbed the chance to play more acoustically, it turned out to be a ball. The audience couldn't stop dancing, this is how we like it! All credit goes to the übernice Spanish people who organized this, and thanks to Ton, our never-fatigued manager, who with only a single iPhone, did an incredible job bringing everything to a good end. From negotiating luggage conflicts with not-too-intelligent bus drivers, to maintaining the band's signature sound in spite of color-deaf sound-engineers. From bringing sleepyhead tenorists to the airport on time, to unexpected expertise on local delis like cafe con lecce. This in brief, was our two memorable nights in Spain, and we are always ready for more!

Invading Spain

It's not a secret but we love to share it: The Jazzinvaders are doing really well. After releasing their latest album BLOW! worldwide (ps check out the free download on this website)  they're invited all around the globe to promote it and that's exactly what they're doing at the moment. After some very succesful gigs in september they're now preparing for a small Spanish tour that will kick of in november.

This is the second album from this great Dutch group and on the ever-consistent label ‘Social Beats' (also Dutch), who, currently, can do no wrong. Let's make no bones about it, this album is aimed straight at the dancefloor and hit's the bullseye. Dj's with no patience will get frustrated because there are so many tracks one could play(Day By Day; Perugia; Max Roach; Broad Minds and the funky ‘What The Bleep') but it's also varied enough, tempo and style-wise, to suit the home-listener too. As you'd expect from the Dutch - with their great jazz heritage, the musicianship is outstanding, but there must be a special mention of the singer Linda Bloemhard, who shines throughout the album. - 8 out of 10

Love and Happiness all over the beach!

The Jazzinvaders project is a collaboration between producer/percussionist Phil Martin and members of famous Dutch jazz outfit The Houdini's. Rejecting the producer-centric abstractions of the nu-jazz/broken beat set, Up & Out is a groove-centred attempt at updating the classic latin and jazz-funk sounds of the 1960s and 1970s for the 21st century.
This is a band with their sights set firmly on the dancefloor. Opener ‘Bonga Bonga Jazz' sets the tone - a propulsive concoction of Latin riffs and funky horn stabs driven forward by an elastic monster of a bassline. Elsewhere there are nods to the pioneering fusions of Fela Kuti and the Jazzanova crew as well as some lovely vocal turns from Mette Burild and Linda Bloemhard.
But for all its infectious vitality and the nods to recent dancefloor trends, Up & Out remains a very retro affair that throws up no real surprises. Luckily what the set lacks in invention it more than makes up for in sheer exuberance - a welcome reminder of just how funky jazz can be.
